A bat found in downtown Minneapolis tested positive for rabies last week. According to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), a group of people found the bat at Marquette Avenue and 6th Street on Tuesday, September 10, around 1 p.m., and brought it to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory while it was still alive. Rabies was confirmed two days later.
An independent study conducted by the United States Agricultural Research Service and the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History found 32 of 35 private wells in three counties in southwestern Wisconsin contaminated with fecal matter. Last week, the Minnesota Board of Animal Health (BAH) announced that a Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) positive deer farm in Crow Wing County was depopulated in the continued effort to manage potential spread to the area’s wild deer.
