CAHFS Emerging Issues keeps you informed and up-to-date on global health, animal health, and public health news.

ASFWatch was the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety's fall 2018 Emerging Issues feature. ASFWatch includes a series of resources related to recent ASF outbreaks, including video and audio podcasts, timelines, maps, fact sheets, infographics, and other timely information.

ASF Risk Analysis

recently published study (Jurado et al, 2018) estimated the risk for introduction of ASF virus into the U.S. through smuggling of pork in air passengers’ luggage. Results suggest that the mean risk of ASF virus introduction into the U.S. via air travel has increased 183%, compared to the risk estimated before the disease spread into China, East Asia, and Western Europe in 2018 and 2019. In episode 6, Dr. Jose Manuel Sanchez Vizcaino, full professor at the Universidad Complutense Madrid and director of the OIE reference laboratory for African Swine Fever, and Dr. Kaylee Myhre Errecaborde, instructor in the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, discuss the global and local policy challenges in the control of African swine fever.
