Andres Perez gives Keynote Speech

On December 1, CAHFS Director Andres Perez gave the keynote address in the 9th Conference on Research in Salmonculture (IX Jornadas de Investigación en Salmonicultura), which took place in Puerto Varas, Chile. Dr. Perez shared two lectures on the topic of Fish Health, and was the only speaker from an organization outside Chile. The conference united under the theme of “Science for a Better Industry.”

Dr. Perez’s keynote address was titled, “The Use of Antibiotics in the Animal Production Industry: Trends within the One Health Framework.” His second lecture centered on the topic of the Epidemiology of the Transfer of Antimicrobial Resistance to and from Animal Production Systems.

The event—organized by the Technological Institute of Salmon (Intesal)—was held at the Cumbres Hotel in Puerto Varas and featured world-class speakers, who covered topics around the themes of fish health and environmental sustainability. This conference has the goal of allowing for the transfer and dissemination of scientific knowledge, in addition to being a meeting for industry professionals, with attendance of more than 150 people including producers, suppliers, governmental authorities, and researchers.
