VPH Resident Bio

Jamie Umber

 

CVM CAHFS Resident UmberDr. Jamie Umber is originally from Chico, California. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 2000 from the University of California at Davis with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Classical Civilization. Dr. Umber received her DVM degree from the University of Minnesota in 2004. For the next three years she served on active duty with the US Army Veterinary Corps taking care of military working dogs and pets of service members, and serving on multiple public health and veterinary response teams. In her off-duty time Dr. Umber also worked at a small animal emergency hospital. In August of 2007 Dr. Umber started the veterinary public health residency at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine. As a VPH resident Dr. Umber has worked on many different veterinary public health projects from infection control for the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center to consulting for the USDA’s National Veterinary Stockpile. In early 2009, she successfully defended her MPH project “Antimicrobial Resistance & Pets: a Teaching Module” as part of her Master of Public Health degree. A portion of that project was recently published as a chapter in the March 2009 issue of Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice. Dr. Umber has also been appointed as an Associate Fellow with the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment where she participates in research, education, and outreach activities related to complex environmental problems.
